What do you crave in a warm-weather cocktail? A thirst quencher that both refreshes and piques the summer palate with a tangy, citrus punch? Then this drink is for you.
An update on the classic “Salty Dog”cocktail, the star of this summer sipper is grapefruit. Cheers!
Grapefruit-Vodka Martini
Makes 2 cocktails
Juice of 1/2 grapefruit (about 2 ounces)
1 oz simple syrup (recipe below)
4 oz vodka (we like Tito’s brand)
3 drops grapefruit bitters (we use Fee Brothers brand)
Pinch of salt
Place two martini glasses in freezer.
Fill cocktail shaker halfway with ice and add all ingredients.
Shake vigorously until cold. Strain into well-chilled martini glasses.
Simple Syrup
1 cup fresh water
1 cup sugar
Heat the sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring until completely dissolved. Let cool. Keep it in the fridge for up to a month.
Also good in iced tea, where it’s tough to dissolve granulated sugar.
